On a more serious note…  What do you guys think about transliteration?

It’s admittedly a big mess when it comes to Thai, some people try to approximate English spelling (which is a bit chaotic to begin with!), some approach the issue with a more linguistic mind.  I prefer the latter, and for that, I very welcome the notation Ms. Becker uses in her books — it’s very clear about the vowels (using the schwa, the open e and the crossed u is a quite good idea), and the consonants aren’t too bad either.

But all in all, the transliteration distracts me.  I’m fine with reading Thai text (even if slow at it!), but I can’t make my eye not look at latin-lettered text when it’s present.  I’d totally prefer learning without it whatsoever.

What is your stance on the matter?
